Masamoto TAKATSUJI is an originator in the field of plant factories and was the first person in Japan to start research at the Central Research Laboratory of Hitachi, Ltd. in 1974. He laid the foundation for plant factories in Japan and is currently supervising benchmark factories and related systems, such as a lettuce factory at the Tsukuba Expo, Daiei, Inc.'s Biofarm and PASONA O2 (an underground farm).
