| March 1973 | The Social Development Research Institute was founded. |

| July 2002 | The Social Development Research Institute was renamed the Social Development Research Center. Kazuo Noda was appointed as the chief director. (He became the president in 2006.) |
| April 2009 | The Agriculture, Commerce and Industry Expert Committee on Plant Factories was established and Masamoto Takatsuji was appointed as the chairman. |
